Kim Fletcher's famous weekly pub diaries at Jameson's started with the first publication Wednesday, January 26th, 2005.  Each Thursday night, local time, a new diary will be uploaded for your viewing pleasure.

Diary No. 110 Week of 26th February 2007 - 4th March 2007 Updated 8th March 2007

More rugby and the beginning of the Cricket World Cup

We all have our wonderful Deputy, Assistant, Junior, Trainee Manager (First Class) to thank for the new computer booster, which means that the strength of the signal for your laptops has been hugely boosted by this first class piece of engineering. Of course I think this was a partly selfish act by our Deputy, Assistant, Junior, Trainee, Manager (First Class). As he has got himself a new telephone computer type thing which he spends all night poking with a little rod sending messages and looking up little known facts to annoy the rest of us in the pub. But once our roving Ambassador Mark Stubbs gets back from his week away in Singapore, I'm sure this boosted system will keep them both happy. Many of you have commented that it must be a bit of a bore with my two fingered typing to keep on writing out Deputy, Assistant, Junior, Trainee, Manager (First Class). Every time I mention Ian (Lady Di) Harrington that I have to go through all the rigmarole of writing out Deputy, Assistant, Junior, Trainee, Manager, (First Class). Well it is a bit of a bore, but he is worth it and to be honest I cannot make up a suitable anagram of the initials 'Dajt', just does not make any sense. Then again nor does Lady Di most of the time.

Lots of fun in the pub over the week, with the new Wednesday Special featuring the Steak and Mushroom Pie making a large impact. If you have not tried it yet you do not know what a culinary delight you are missing. Fortunately this weekend we have the return of the Six Nations rugby tournament with the Welsh having a tricky away game in Italy, whilst the Scots welcome the Irish for the first game of the day. Meanwhile on Sunday England totter over to France for a game. With Johnnie Wilkinson not playing I doubt Lisa Lurve will even bother to watch the game. We will of course also have Reading F.C. playing as well with important games coming up as with recent events Reading appear to be plunging back into the relegation battle. Then on Monday the Cricket World Cup starts. Timing will not be a problem as we will simply stay open late for the interesting games. The first game I can see being close and keeping us up late chewing on finger nails could well be the clash of those cricketing giants Australia vs. Scotland.

Happiness is a round table

Saturday night

Geordies, Alec, Darren, Jimmy & Chris
Sunday saw another wonderful magic show from Dr. Magic in Jameson's which kept all the children Iain Corness and Eoin Quirke happy for the afternoon. Also seen happily playing in Jameson's during the week, have been, Graham (Superman) Watkins who may now be feeling the consequences of a weekend away with the Quigley's! A visit from Paul Baker, the ever smiling Bob Finch, Ray Matti and Curly Wurly. This weekend there will be sports quiz questions on every table, only three questions set by the master of the quiz questions Graham MacDonald 'The Font of All Knowledge' these questions come in three categories first one 'easy', second one slightly harder, and the third comes from The Font's special brain, and could be described as slightly more difficult! Those using goggle from their phone will be lassoed and disqualified, but the lucky winners with the right answers will get a repeat order of the drinks in front of them up to four people a team. The result will be announced in between Saturday's rugby games. Debbie Lightley has arrived back in town, which unfortunately has not improved Simon's behavior at all.

P.J. is back
Budgie has adopted a window in Jameson's which has turned the Pool Table area even more into a Jackanory room. Johnnie Live has been whizzing around as ever. The Franklins also never seem to slow down. Eddie comes in every night as Fast Eddie but seems to slope off later as Slow Edward. Andy McTighe paid a very fleeting visit and we look forward to seeing him back again for a longer stay. Andy did not even have time to give Terry Schofield of North Shore Real Estate a lesson in golf whilst he was here. The Geordies have been invading in force as ever with leading the charge Darren and Poppy, Chris and Jenny, backed up by Alec, and Jimmy. Pouring down the bar have been Jameson's legendary crew of Graham, Nick, Ian, Paul, Joy, Denis and Lek, Rob and Wit, Welsh Graham, Dangerous Dave, Stuart, Moo, Sophie and James, Andrew Watts, the wonderful Sid Silk, Linus has been around the table all week, holding grimly onto his towel come what may, and is having a leaving party tonight Friday 9th March, Towels optional. Steve Ponter was in and around always with a new story of mirth to tell, Steve really is enthusiastic about the Jesters Charity Drive and firmly wears his heart on his sleeve. Colin Duggan was in bolstering the Welsh with Mike Watkins leading the charge. We have also had the pleasure of the company of Eoin and Shelley Quirke (sadly Eoin's Mum and Dad Sheila and Joe have gone back home). The Bryant's Rick, Harpic, Jake, Paige and Abby, the release date of Harpic's new pickled onions is a closely guarded secret. The Payne's Jason, Nui and Leo. Johnnie Fox of the wonderful Q Cars graced us with his presence. Jimmy Howard is also back from his travels. Neil Sandilands is back in town and once he has defrosted I am sure there will be plenty stories of daring do for next week's diary. Rony Fineman was in to give the new menu a good going over and was delighted with the new Duck with orange sauce.
Well enough from me, see you at the bar, Kim.
