The George Again booze up on Tuesday gave use wonderful start, although the following days drinking with the Mighty Sam Peebles crowd was also a spectacular to behold in fact an Odyssey, usual suspects the Mighty Sam Peebles himself Jameson's Football Captain Brian Abbott, The Fat Landlord 'Parachute' Kim Fletcher, Bryan Clayton, we had the luxury of a long weekend with Ian (Lady Di) Harrington, Dez the P.E Teacher, Johny Live Thailand's best hairdresser, Captain Steve Ponter, who is also working away rounding things up from the Jesters Care4Kids Charity Drive 2008, whilst also getting ready for the 2009 edition, Terry Schofield of No Fixed Abode. A big Thank you to Steve Graham of ESC for his swift action in helping Peter Mack and Brian Abbott. Nice chatting to Paul Wilkinson of Four Winds about my favorite subject Rock 'n' Roll. And I've got Geoff to talk to about cricket live is good. Young Paul, Joules, Young Steve, Dennis and Lek, Rob and Wit, Scottish Derek, as opposed to Geordie Derek. Graham (The Font of All Knowledge) MacDonald, Dennis and Geoff from the Unquenchables, the full touring team will be here in November. Now that is something to look forward to. The arrival of the Betteridges for a long weekend certainly put a sparkle about the weekend. Helen is a model now you know, but still counts her lemons. Rick Bryant the QPR fan, and the rest of his Reading supporting crowd Harpic, free goal scoring Jake, Paige and Abbi. (Hello to Lisa Lurve), Jack Levy of MBL, Simon and Debbie (nearly) Philbrook. The Franks always on fine form, even better now that they have finished school. The Pattaya Hash House Harriers crew Grand Master Spaghetti Head, 'Free Willy' and Gary. The wonderful Iain Corness who will be taking over the sports room on Sunday 2nd November for the Final and climatically Formula One Grand Prix. Please check the sports schedule for timing, but I think the race starts at 11.00 p.m. Stuart and Moo Young, Anthony, Big David. No week would be complete without a visit from Eoin and Shelley Quirke. Ray Matti is still in Europe with Curly Wurly, but the intended arrival back is the 4th November, you have been warned, and where is that Root of All Evil.
Lots of good things happening this weekend, there will be a charity walk (I'm being kind 'Pub Crawl') led by Kevin Fisher (Mr. Charity). The Charity's benefiting will be either for the children who need prosthetic limbs or the British Legion, your choice. Kevin always brings a cheery crowd, so that should be some fun. Now the boys will be arriving through the door after the Bledsloe Cup Rugby Game between New Zealand and Australia, this game is looking like being the game of the season and not to be missed. The program starts at 3.15 p.m. so I imagine kick off at 3.30 p.m. The Carvery will open at 2.00 p.m. (look at the pictures to see how good that is). The game will be on every T.V. screen with an English commentary. There are 17 screens in Jameson's including the giant 100''x100'' screen in the sports room, three plasma screens, and the rest, so you should be able to watch on one screen or other, but please come early for a good seat. There is not much I can do when all the seats are taken, and people arrive wanting seats. Dez, and Graham will be arriving at 1 o’clock to savor the Carvery and then seat back relaxed to watch the game. The other major sporting event on the telly this weekend is the Brazilian Formula One Grand Prix which is the highlight of the whole event, as it's the last race, with all to play for The Race starts at 11 o’clock in the evening. George Again in the opening round of the contest with a slight drinking problem But George Again was still smiling, and if you notice the evil glint in his eye, you just know, that Nova Table had probably bitten off more than it could chew George Again having finished his drinks started buying drinks for Nova Table, you can tell by the look on these poor saps faces they did not know what was coming Young Steve starts to feel the pressure a bit at Nova Table. There are only shots of Steve in this predicament as he was sitting opposite the Landlord, and I had the camera Happy Faces at Jameson's Scottish Derek and the staff go wild Nova Table on Tuesday waiting for George. Dez, Mike Watkins, Young Paul, Johny Live on his diet coke, Landlord Kim, and Bryan The Poppy day appeal gathers momentum with Jason, Eddie and Young Paul	The beginning of the end last Tuesday night when a few Cavaliers sat round Nova Table, trying to think of a cunning plan to enliven the evening what innocent dreams we had of a night of frivolous folly. Eddie, Young Steve (who had come in for lunch), Young Paul (with proper eyes), Fat Landlord Kim, Dez the Hat Salesman, and Steve Hovi who had just popped in to return the banners from the CUEL magnificent Golf Tournament, and was persuaded to have one drink Eddie saw that there could be a sticky situation here as one drink led to well more than one drink. It was about this time that George Again (he is called George Again because every time a drink arrives in front of you, you ask the waitress where it came from and she says George, and you say "What George Again?) arrived and Kim came up with a Cunning Plan, very simple really, like all the best plans are. We would simply buy George a few (well actually lots) of drinks and then George would not be able to buy us any back as he would have so many drinks in front of him. Nice to hear from Lisa Lurve, and Mottman this week, not long before we see Colin, and hopefully not long before we see the Lurve girl. Tony and Iris will be bursting through the door any day as will Big Dave Beckett. Rony Fineman is back and running round like a maniac as usual. Blondie will be rushing round all week having the time of her life, selling the poppies for Remberance Day, don't forget this is a very good cause. Nice to hear from Ian and Pat Dickson who are deliriously happy in Australia, and send regards to all (it will be a different story next year when England obliterate Australia at Cricket!). Many points of debate often fly around Nova Table. Was there a Jane on the Magic Roundabout? Is Goofy a dog or a bear? Who is the worst bowler to play in the Chang Mai Sixes? etc. On very dear to the Root of All Evil's heart (A Black Heart) is that Malcolm is still convinced that man landed on the moon ........ Well we all know that is ridicules, the Indians have just sent an unmanned rocket to the moon, do you know why it is unmanned? Because they can't get it to fly back, but apparently according to Malcolm 40 years ago three blokes got in an ship flew to the moon had a walk about, and then flew back. I shall put this to Malcolm when he comes back and see what his reaction is. I shall keep you informed. As I write this it is Tuesday now known round Nova as George's day (certainly no Saint). You can see why because of the photos. Wonderful e-mail from Woody announcing we have crossed the Eight Million Baht raised mark. How on earth can we top that with our 12th year in 2009? The Black Sheep banished to the sports room The Grand Ship George Again arrives safely to victory at Nova Table, and as you can see the staff welcomed him with open arms It's Poppy Day coming up, and your poppies are on sale in Jameson's. We charge a minimum of 20 Baht per Poppy (although no change will be given for 100 Baht notes). This event is run by the British Legion and is a very worthy cause, War Veterans. Bert he of Tropical Bert's organizes the whole thing, but at Jameson's we like to help as best we can, so buy a Poppy and you get it pinned on by your favorite member of staff Brian Abbott, Terry Schofield of No Fixed Abode, and Jon Fox of the wonderful Q Cars After a slight accident with some red wine Peter Mack has it all sorted out by the lovely Alice. A wonderful selection of freshly Roasted Meats on this occasion (Sunday) a choice of Roast Turkey, Roast leg of Lamb, Roast Beef and Roast Pork with lots a crackling a choice of nine vegetables, Yorkshire Pudding, soups a sold bar, choice of desserts etc all for 350 Baht, all you can eat. You can sit in the bar all day and go up to refill your plate as often as you want no extra charge of there is something not on the Carvery that you would like, ask the Chef and we will get it on the Carvery as quick a impossible, that way you can often get a roast joint straight out the oven to tuck into Mr. and Mrs. John Kennedy, J.K and Tai to you, relax in the library area	Happy Birthday to the lovely Charm The Betteridges arrive and of course carnage ensues, bringing with them Graham Watkins (all people called Watkins seem to be really good people, Greg Watkins sent The Landlord some really good brand new CD's this week, and of course there's Spikey, Mike Watkins. This is great as it means we have no transportation problems with raffle and auction prizes. Just in as the Diary went to press, (well actually when I tell a very patient Moo, she can actually start organizing it all, the real work). I received this wonderful e-mal from Woody. Over 8 Million quite remarkable, and a brilliant effort from everybody. And so onto 2009 and the 12th Charity Drive of the Jesters Care4Kids which next year will of course be held at the Diana Driving Range and Resort on 13th September 2009 followed by the Party Night at Jameson's on Saturday 19th September 2009. Dear All, The formal confirmation and audit of our accounts is still in progress. However, at this point, the difference between the theoretical (what we have on paper) and the actual (what we have/ will have plus that already distributed) is now within 4681 baht of each other. And even though there is still 682,490 baht to be collected from sponsors, auction bidders and advertisers, we are confident that it is forthcoming. As a result, I cannot hold this in any longer: We have not only broken the 8 million baht barrier, but have done so comfortably with a current actual total of 8,294,811 baht in both cash and kind. The Reason why Steve never smiles on the telly. Dear All, at the Pub. Thanks to all branches round the compass for their support from afar - it is much appreciated I can assure you. Greetings also to Rick and Harpic, I really do hope it is a good game with a happy result for the majority of Nova. Despite repeated requests from The Management I cannot smile as this would undo the image created after almost 30 years of abject misery on the sidelines. I have patented the look and am waiting for offers from various pain-killer medications for the day I retire and can smile uncontrollably. As if! Have fun you lot. Love to all Mr. Happy x

There is no opportunity to build an innings or to pressure the batsman into a false shot with a variety of guile and deception. Some of the best grade / shield and test matches I have seen have featured suspense and the game progressively unwinding as it ebbs and flows. Not sure where this is heading is really positive for the game. Starting to see the big name / big money players like Symonds not being so fussed with cricket as having fun. Agree - Watson hits well and scores well in the shorter forms, but yet to prove he can bat in the test arena under pressure. But he did bowl well in the first innings. Thought Australia were surprsingly competitive in the first test. We don't have a good track record in India even with the better sides we had in the past 5-10 years. But I guess any day Ponting and Hussey score centuries, your batting will be competitive. Bowlers did very well in the the first innings to restrict India, but will struggle throughout the series to bowl India out twice. I think Harbeshan and Khan holding out so comfortably indicates we lack variety and expertise to trouble them. With the retirement of Magill, we have very poor spinning stocks and no plan for the future. Agree Warne would be an option for the next Ashes tour (on form) but very solid pushback from Ponting and the test leadership squad. Almost a reluctance to consider if he wanted to play (which to date he has denied). How have you been? Pat & I are well - very busy at work and home getting organised for Pat's two sister's arriving 1st Nov with family for 3 weeks. Should be good fun - house is now full of alcohol in anticipation of demand going up steeply. Still making outlandish predictions of England's cricket future?
