Diary No. 239 Week of 5th October
2009 - 18th October 2009 Updated 22nd October 2009
Back
to Work
Well sorry
it's been a while folks, but whilst on holiday I spent time
with my dear Mum, rather then writing the diary,
although we did manage to send you some photos for one of the
week's diaries.
So a lot has been going on. I got back from England,
my Mum, and Mott the Hoople, and after a pretty awful
flight back, felt O.K. But two days later the dreaded lurgy
got me, and I was on me back for another few days, but the time
clock seems to have readjusted pretty much now.
Kim arrives at the Travel Lodge in Battersea in his Mott
the Dog Shirt made by Mickey
The Mott the Hoople reunion gets under way at the Anchor
in Battersea with Mick, Linda, Trevor and Mark, who came along
on the promise they would see Led Zeppelin (Well Jimmy Page
turned up!)
Before the Mott the Hoople Gig at the Hammersmith Odeon
Excitement at Hammersmith
Mottman knows this is Kim's head in the front row.
I am glad he knows because Kim's head was all over the place
at the time
I know they serve Thai Food in London, as you can see it
is also VERY cold
The holiday
was great, but as ever flew past far too quickly. It was great
seeing my Mum again after far too many years,
she looked remarkably fit, and healthy, she had also lost none
of her talent for working in the kitchen and produced enough
food to supply an army let alone the Fat Landlord,
plenty of Mashed Swede, Roast Parsnips, Proper Baked
Potatoes and Home Made Chutney. John my Mother's delightful
Rugby/Golf playing Husband was also in terrific form
keeping the Landlord in new stories to tell
in the pub. If you saw the last Diary there
was also the occasion of John's Daughter's birthday
party which I was able to crash whilst I was there
Sarah, Sarah Wilson to give her full title,
now you have to remember, that at this party there were plenty
of people I had not seen for twenty five years or more, plus
of course many people who I have never met due to them not having
been born, when I was there last, but a jolly good party it
was. John's two daughters Sarah, and Elizabeth
are still as beautiful as when I last saw them all that time
ago, quite extraordinary, and putting the Landlord
firmly in the shade with his rather haggard appearance. Simon
and Jonathan there husband's should consider them selves
very lucky, but then both were extremely good blokes so I suppose
that makes it all fair, it all got as bit confusing to be honest,
but there was also their recently married daughter Hannah
who has married a very nice chap called Michael,
who I was delighted to talk to about all sorts, the there was
the Pretty Kim that was married to Simon,
who is in the music business, and I didn't get as much time
to talk to as I would of wished, but perhaps next time. I don't
blame him either playing with his delightful children was much
more fun. Then of course there was the other side of the family.
Paul and Rosemary Powis, Rosemary is wonderful
except for the fact that she likes plants and things which makes
her a bit delightfully potty! And Paul is a
diamond how else can he not be married into my family, and loves
Cricket and Rugby. It was great seeing these
two after such a long time, and I was sad to miss their children
who I have not seen since they were children, and of course
they are now 'Proper' adults. Paul and Rosemary
were fantastic, and brought my Mum up to the
Airport at Heathrow to pick me up from the flight,
and then were even kinder in a week later taking me back up
to the Airport so I could get back. Then of
course the backbone to any party is the workers (Slaves,
the Downstairs Staff). It was a lovely sight to arrive
back at my Mum's house Whitehaven to be greeted
by three bowing and courtesing maids, all lined up in a row
taking their own time off to welcome back their Master
all dressed in their very nice matching Pinny's.
Firstly we had the Head Parlour Girl Little Kim,
who had been brought down from the Crofts of Scotland
and allowed to meet her little brother for a few days.
Kim had not changed at all and it was delight
to see her again, and kept us all laughing through out the couple
of days she was with us, although she really still cannot sit
down for more than one minute without getting up to do something
or make the Landlord do something he doesn't
want to do, like washing up. Great to see you again little
Kim, and thanks for coming all the way from Scotland,
please send my fondest regards to your husband, because if he
had not married you, we might still be stuck with you. The there
was Christine Warrington, better known to all
as tricks, such a delightful girl who used to be the
Manageress of that marvelous Pub the Market
House, Christine was a hoot as ever, and had the marvelous
idea of bringing with her some Diaries that
she had kept from spells that tricks, Sara and I had run the
pub when my Mum Edna had taken short holidays
when she was Maidstone's leading landlady.
Pictures from Led Zeppelin and Hawkwind Fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mark and Trevor were really good news over the trip to get up
to Hammersmith and see the Mighty Mott the Hoople. Turning up
every day before Mott the Dog making sure the beer was ready.
What a team. Peter Bevis put on a celebrity laden Luncheon at
Langans Brassiere, which was the equal to any Blaggers Luncheon,
higher praise I cannot give
The Holy Grail of Rock ‘n’ Roll a front row
ticket for Mott the Hoople at the Hammersmith Odeon.
Thanks go out to Tee side Mark White and the great Organizational
skills of Mottman. For some great proper shots of Mott the Hoople
please click on here for Ross Halfin’s website
The diaries we had great
fun with after the party finishing off the wine, and everybody
reading out the bits that they had written, it was almost like
a Market House Play Reading. Sara Mattinson
was the third little maid all in a row, and what a bundle of
energy she still is (she also filled me in on all the gossip,
25 years worth of gossip in 25 minutes!)
The Day after the party we were up bright and breezy and off
to the Pub for Lunch with Marjory Froud
and her beautiful daughter Sue, and my Mum's best friends Eve
and her daughter Charlie. I think we nearly got chucked
out for being to noisy, but anywaya great
Lunch, and some wonderful Food and Bitter Ale.
It was all rather sad when the party had to break up. But as
they say all good things must come to an end.
Of course sandwiched in between all this family goings on, the
Landlord slipped up to London to go
to the Hammersmith Odeon and see Mott
The Hoople reform. Three nights of being transported
back in time to the glory days of rock music from the late sixties
to the early seventies. Now you must remember that Mott
the Hoople in their height of fame could only fill
the Hammersmith Odeon for one night, now here
they were thirty five years later playing five nights, and every
night was sold out. What if they had been awful? Of course they
weren't with an average age of sixty five they blew the roof
off the place, and sent the audience batty. To see some pictures
of the concerts please look up the link on this page to see
Ross Halfin's wonderful pictures of Mott
the Hoople. It really was a great Rock 'n' Roll experience,
made really good for me by the kindness and generosity of all,
with some notable stars. First and Foremost is Colin
(Mottman) Powell who goes straight into Kim
Fletcher's Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Mottman knew
everybody, out drunk everybody, must of introduced me to 1,000
great people, got me home in the end of the night (somehow).
Booked the tickets, hotels, buss, excursions, beers, food, (well
Dodgy kebabs). Fought off the Hoards
of Cruising Gay Gangs, took care of the Landlord
when he threw Hissy fits, and was in general
the best friend that man could possibly have, including introducing
him to several other important people, Sue Mum
who took care of all and sundry at the gigs including Brian
Abbott's coat each night, Mark White from Teesside
University who had the displayed ticket on here that
was a Golden Ticket for the front row of the
Friday night at the Hammersmith Odeon, the stub of
which is displayed here. Well done Mottman
you did good, I look forward to getting even with you on your
return here in January. Trevor Masters
and Mark Winslade, Hawkwind and Led Zeppelin fans respectively,
who turned up every afternoon in the pub to jolly everything
along, coming to see Mott the Hoople twice,
remembering to bring cameras etc. lets hope it's not long before
we meet up again. Peter Bevis and his Ex-Manager Offsider
arrived in style at the pub before the first gig and really
gave the London part of the trip a kick start,
great fun down the pub and then off to the concert. Then the
next day Peter had invited me to Lunch
at Langans Brassiere, my favourite Restaurant in London
from when I lived there some thirty years ago. Well I am pleased
to tell you that Langans is as good as ever,
although I have never done it in such style before, talking
about Lunch with the stars. I mentioned that Mottman
knew everybody at The Mott he Hoople Gigs,
well Peter is certainly very well known at
Langans, talking about Lunch with the
Stars? I was well impressed, one of the best
Lunch's of my lifetime. Friday was
a good day, a walk into London passed all the
sites, Lunch with the Stars, and then a front
row ticket for Mott the Hoople, then down the
Pub till the early hours. Thank you to Mott the Hoople,
all the Mott the Hoople people, Colin Powell, SueMum, Peter
Bevis, Mark White, Trevor and Mark. Brilliant. With
no time to recover we went straight through into Saturday,
where sadly and rather foolishly Lunch was side stepped , and
more Beer consumed and the day was boosted up by the arrival
of Linus (Stu Mitchell) the boy from the Valleys
who kept us all in good spirits through the night. The
Hammersmith Odeon Bar that night was enliven by the
arrival of Peter Makowski, who whilst taking
a break from his backstage duties, (Jimmy Page and Jeff
Beck won't move without Makowski).
Who dragged out Ross Halfin and Slave, in Makowski's
own words Halfin delightfully lived down to
his reputation, and once he had checked that we really were
all Perverts he retired off to go and take
photo's off proper celebrities with his slave in tow. It was
some sort of wonder that I made Sarah's Party on Sunday.

Clock in, and then don't forget to clock out
Although I had a wonderful time in England
and all my friends old and new treated me so well, it was nice
to get back to Thailand and Jameson's. The
pub had been well looked after particularly on Friday
night when The Mighty Sam Peebles
had been Captain on deck followed by The
Junior Deputy, Assistant, Manager the man himself Lady Di Ian
of Harrington on the Saturday. Well done lads you did
good, of course during this these two had the full backing of
my Management Duo of Moo and Wanchai who made
sure the good ship Jameson's kept on the straight
and narrow. Many good people have been through attempting to
arrest the Landlord from the downward spiral
of Jetlag. The Landlord himself was devastated
to find out that the expected arrival of The Root of
All Evil Mr. Malcolm Clare had been unrepentantly (well
to the Landlord at least) cut to a mere two
days, when he was immediately recalled to work, this has two
huge disadvantages firstly, The Root is not
here now, and secondly when they do let him loose again, hopefully
in early November he will be awfully thirsty.
I brought some Stilton Cheese with me from
England at least some of this will be preserved
for The Root's arrival. Geoff Evans
has also been in town and sadly hoofed it back to work before
the Landlord could give him the necessary treatment
to Thank him for his friendship, and help with the Jesters
Charity Drive Fair which he so willingly gave, and
makes such a big difference to our efforts. For all the latest
news from woody about the Jesters Care4Kids Charity
Drive 2009 please look up our website at www.care4kids.info
where the full amazing story of last year is now on display.
It was great to get my feet back under Nova Table
again, and hear all about what had been going on since I left.
Thanks go out to Sid Silk for the wonderful
Fredrick Forsythia book he lent me for the
flight, great to see Mike Axford, and his three Wives!
Billy Page is with us, and a delight he is
too whilst Young Steve Page has followed the
Landlord's example and flown home to go and see his
Mum. Dai and Porn Coe have also gone
racing off to the Welsh Valleys and I suspect
other parts of the U.K there will be a warm
welcome for them when they return. Steve leaving
to go back to the U.K leaves RayC
without his usual touring partner, but he seems to be coping
very well, whilst Young (Nobody) Frank is like
a fish out of water without just Frank to knock
around with. Saturday night was a wonderful
Jameson's night with the Pattaya Panthers arriving
in force under the instructions of Captain Eoin Quirke
and his good Lady Wife Shelley to watch the Rugby
which Eoin thought was scheduled for
7 o'clock, whereas in actual fact it was scheduled
for 7 o'clock but Seven South Africa
time, who are five hours behind us,
so therefore the Rugby would not be broadcast
until one in the morningThai
time, fortunately Eoin had a perfect
back up Plan B, instead of watching Rugby
"Lets all get drunk!" this was
then taken up in unison as only a Rugby team
can do with Jimmy Howard at the center of the
action aided and abetted by all including the wonderful spark
J.K with his lovely Wife and Daughter Tai and Ice, The
Font of All Knowledge Graham MacDonald, Superman Graham Watkins,
Simon Quigley, our wonderful Football Captain Brian Abbott,
Judi McNamara, and all so by the time the Rugby
was supposed to be on we really didn't care anymore.
For this week's sporting schedule please look up the
Jameson's Sports site on the side of this page.
Jameson's drinking team with a Football problem
Happy Birthday to Lola
A wonderful Sunday night
Saturday was enliven
by the cancellation of the latest Pattaya Football Teams
game so they all retired to Jameson's to mull
over what a great victory it would of been had the game not
been some what disturbed by a drop or two of rain.
One of the nicest events of my week in England
was a visit to a very dear friend of my mothers on the
Thursday morning before I got the train up to London
where I met the charming young lady who leaves near
to my Mum where we had tea and cakes, and had
to go round to give our Thanks for the most
wonderful Brussels Sprouts we had eaten on
the previous evening. This delightful lady will always be known
as Brussels Sprout Pat in my mind.
The big news in the Soi is of course the almost immanent Opening
of the Nova Gold Hotel right next door to Jameson's,
and what a lovely hotel it is going to be let me tell you. This
one 'The Gold One' is Rony's
own personnel baby, so nothing is being spared (Least
of all The Rod). Sascha is going to
be the main man in charge and has already been for many meetings
etc with the Landlord and his team as we at
Jameson's will be supplying them with all the
necessary to keep you all alive like food and water (Burgers
and Beers). Soi Sukrudee is now coming all
into its own, and let me tell you Nova Gold
is going to be at the centre of right all along with Jameson's.
Martin is going hammer and tongs at Minus
5 now with party after party, soon there will be no
need to leave Soi Sukrudee at all. I will keep
you bang up to date with all the latest developments right here
on these pages. Have a good week, Kim.
These photos were sent by Cees to Wanchai after his Party.
I can't think why Wanchai would want these? I thought I would
publish them to keep Mottman quiet
Derek and Steve tuck into the Jameson's grub. We are at
