Diary No. 223 Week of 15th June 2009
- 21st June 2009 Updated 25th June 2009
The
Long Way Round with Mott The Dog
Since realizing
just how fat he had become 'Mott The Dog' has
been trying to sort himself out a bit. Can't go home and see
my Mum, and Mott The Hoople in this state,
trouble is it is probably a bit late (all brought about by Jimmy
Howard's 65th Birthday Party in which 'The
Dog' was invited to play, but upon watching the kick
off, he realized, he would be killed if he staggered on to the
pitch) and as Jimmy played the full 60 minutes.
Mott the Dog decided something needed to be
done. Nothing a dramatic as a visit to the Gym or anything,
but walking seemed a good idea. It started off with just a gentle
stroll into work, but horizons have been widened a little bit
to include the whole of Pattaya. So one time
I took the camera with me as I set off last Thursday
morning.
So here we start with a stride out of the front gate, and
from here the main entrance of the compound looks a real long
way away
The view from the bridge over Sukhumvit looking upwards and
onwards
Turning onto Thep Prasit Road, just missing out on the splendors
of Lotus Supercenter
Keep on going down Thep Prasit Road (towards Neil's)
Ah at last the first Pit Stop. 45 minutes into the stroll
Lovely Buddha image in the background
But with a confident stride, headphones in place, we hit
Sukhumvit Road
Over the bridge and on up Sukhumvit
Passing by Dai Coe's Lactose Shop. Read previous Diaries!
Then back on the trail down Thep Prasit
When we say a Street Party. We mean a Street Party
Off Thep Prasit Road and up the Jomtien Road
Past everybody's favorite restaurant “Bruno's”
Funny Fredi never seems to be up at this time of the morning
On up the hill, towards Buddha Mountain
Finally turning off, past all the roadwork's heading towards
the Royal Cliff
Now you are presented with 3 different ways of going uphill
From here onwards the views are much nicer, and the walking
somehow becomes much easier
Another Pit Stop in sight. Have you noticed it's all uphill
so far?
I'll take the low road
The weather station on Pattaya hill
Which kindly tells you the temperature. I don't really know
what relevance this has but it was there so I took a photo
The Royal Cliff Hotel, and the Peach Conference Center.
All beautifully quiet now
The sea! With as ever in Thailand construction going on
Down onto Bali Hai, and we carry on past the Lighthouse. Well
the Lighthouse is not going to move
Pattaya Bay
Little almost vertical steps. I learnt my lesson the hard way
coming down those once
Very pleasant stroll down the Pier
All these wonderful boats should be out in the water. But their
not. It's low season I know. But................
It's not quite the Hollywood sign but, we like it
The Tractor that takes the boats out into the water
Onwards into Walking Street
A Pit Stop on Walking Street
On to Pattaya Beach, not many Tourists around
More boats not being used
Strolling along the Beach front
Never look back. Well just a quick peak
Who would want to be in the air on a Paraglide at this time
in the morning. Obviously many find it a must
Pattaya Land 2
Pattaya Land 3
Now you can see the Pattaya City sign
Rows and rows of empty Deck Chairs, and it's really pleasant
too
Pattaya's best Rock 'n' Roll joint Tahitian Queen on Beach Road.
The home of the Jesters M.C. But most importantly the place
of work of the future Mrs. Peter Mawkowski. She doesn't know
who she is yet. But then be fair nor does Peter
The 4th Pit Stop on the long way round to Jameson's
Lovely isn't it right in the middle of Beach Road. By now the
walk is easy
Beach Road by now it's nearly 11 and still hardly a soul about
Around the Dolphin Roundabout
Onto North Road
Turn for Journey's end
Soi Sukrudee
The 5th and final Pit Stop
My Mum's favorite shop
Another Jameson's sign, and if you look you can see the big
Jameson's sign on top of the Nova Park Hotel
No more Pit Stops now
Journeys end. Jameson's
Now did I get that right?
Or did any of you see the motorbike, and support crew?
A few little known facts about walking around Pattaya.
Now obviously I did not actually complete the entire walk on
Thursday, as I cut out at Jameson's.
The entire walk around all of Pattaya takes
me 4 hours. This walk was started at 8.30
a.m and I arrived in Jamo's at 11.45 p.m. So
3 hours and 15 minutes. Aprox 16 kilometres
(hopefully a bit more). The first bit is a bit boring, but then
it's quite fun after you turn off to the Royal Cliff.
Anyway the music helps. Thursday the little
MP3 player belted out in alphabetical order.

Now let me assure you that takes 3 hours 15 minutes to play.
Of course by now I should be into songs that begin with 'S'
if everything, is still going to plan.
Colin Powell (Mottman)
sent me this wonderful clip of Mott The Hoople.
Have a look. Old Rockers don't fade away. They just become better.
Great week, with some
great Rugby, and some so-so Cricket.
But wonderful people in the Bar. Happy Birthday to Bob
(Scar) Taylor who had his annual party at Tahitian
Queen. They play all sorts of music at Bob's
parties sometimes, both Country, and Western.
The Youth Policy have excelled them selves
this week. With as usual Young Steve (Pagey here, Pagey
there, Pagey everywhere). Page at the front of things
as usual. But well backed up by Steve, Jimmy, RayC,
Cricket Geoff, Captain Steve Ponter, and entourage.
Sadly Geordie BlueBar Derek, has skipped back
to Newcastle for a little while, watch out
Mottman, and the Scourge, Lanky Dave if your
homesick you can reminisce with Derek. The
two Franks (that's 'Nobody' and 'Just Frank')
are off back to work for a few months Philbrooks
all well Simon and Debbie, Eoin and Shelley Quirke,
Graham Watkins, Simon and Nin Quigley, Ashley, Johny Live, Brian
Abbott (who has borrowed my coat!), Dennis
and Lek, Derek and Sa, The Hash House Harriers mob,
led out by Jimmy.
Of course this weekend there is also plenty of sport on for
us to watch Motor G.P. Of course Wimbledon.
But yet again Saturday 27th June is heavily
in favour of Rugby another full schedule starting
at 2.30 p.m. with New Zealand coming up against
the Italians, followed at 5.00 p.m.
with the Australians getting a real test against the
French, and then we get The Second Test of
the South African Springboks, against The British
and Irish Lions at 7.30 p.m. Don't forget to bring
your flags along so you can wave back at Graham and
Jay MacDonald in the crowd. Saturday was a riot all day long, Rugby
does seem to bring out the best in people and I think a good
time was had by all it was particularly good to see our great
friend Vic Wilkie and Karen Pennock, Jill and Gethen
Thomas, Mark Coombes, Richard Cunnicliffe, Deano, Ian Harrington
Terry Schofield, Happy Birthday to Bob (Scar) Taylor, Wayne
Organoski (Blowfly), Judi McNamara, Simon Philbrook, and Simon
Quigley, actually we were a bit lighter than normal
for Simon's on Saturday! Roger Mart, Mickey Price, Dennis
and Lek, Paul and Ying Baker, Muffy's Family but no Muffy, Big
John, Ashley, Jimmy, Good Crew, Good times.
Manoon the General
Manager of Nova Park saved our bacon on Monday
morning, as the electric was out and Wanchai
was day off, so the rest of us were running around
like headless chickens, until Manoon arrived,
climbed up a ladder flicked a switch, gave the box a good bash
with his hammer and all was well. Air Conditioning for another
day.
Someone shouted out "Oy beautiful" and naturally
Debbie turned round, just before the main Jesters Care4Kids
meeting Deborah Philbrook, Brian Abbott Jameson's Football Captain,
and all round good guy, also a member of the Jameson's Care4Kids
Charity Drive Committee member, Kim Fletcher, and Chairman of
the Jesters Care4Kids Charity Drive 2009 Lewis (Woody) Underwood.
Gentle reminder The Care4Kids Charity Drive is the same as everybody
else in the world at the moment struggling a tad, so if you
have any spare Used Books that you would like to donate, please
bring them to either Jameson's, Tahitian Queen, Tropical Bert's
or The Pattaya Mail office. Also if you would like to donate
something towards the Grand Raffle or The Auction please bring
them to the same destinations. They would be gratefully received.
The Auction Site run by Ron Keeley of the wonderful World of
Wines is now up and running, just click on the flashing logo
on the side of this page to have a look. It's quite fun to just
have a peak. The Fair this year is at the Diana Driving Range
and Resort on Sunday 13th September starting at 10.00 a.m. Jameson's
will be running a Used Book Stall at the Fair run as ever by
Judi McNamara. This is what we need your Used Books for. The
following week will see the Party Night for the Jesters Care4Kids
Charity Drive 2009, with all the fun of the end of the sponsored
Bike Ride, The Grand Raffle, The Final Conclusion of the Auction,
and lots of fun, music, and possibly the odd drink. This event

The following day the Good Guys were going to try and make up
for lost ego by having a game against Captain Jester Steve Ponter.
The result of this game will be announced next week. As you
can see I think that Steve will be trying very hard
The wonderful Jack Ponter wondering who has stolen his whisky
This was the third and final Port for the road. After this it
was time to go home. Very similar to the days of The Root of
All Evil, Malcolm Clare

Friday night in Jameson's was a very pleasant one. With my good

Whilst in town use your head. Jameson's have a driver that can
pick you up, and deliver you or more importantly he can drive
you home if you have had a couple of drinks as is our won't
at Jameson's. Our Driver nicknamed 'Brake' can drive your car
home with you as a passenger, then when he gets you safely home
one of the other staff will have followed on a motorbike to
bring Brake safely back to Jameson's. As you can see Steve made
immediate friends with Brake as he took them sallying out on
the town

Good Guys led by Peter Bevis and his side kick, have not taken
defeat well, and their complaints have been sent to a tribunal.
But let me assure you victory was comfortably achieved by the
Bad Guys 5-4. But one suspects that the Good Guys Golf Association
will still be whining six months from now
This was the first Port for the road
This was the second Port for the road
Heard from Col Powell (Mottman)
during the week he met up with Bluebar Derek
in Newcastle's Big Market for a few drinks
with the Lads, and has received the first batch
of Mott the Hoople Tickets (the Excitement
builds). Please click on our Events Page to
see exactly how long the Landlord has got before
he sees his Mum again and sees Mott
the Hoople.
Received Tracie Hunter's
new album 'Superego'. What an album, real music,
with raw emotion, great ballads, and some Killer Rock
Tracks. Tracie Hunter will be coming
across to Thailand in February
to play the Burapha Bike, Peace Festival
(with Foghat and The Last Rock 'n' Roll Band,
featuring our old mates Honest John Plain and Casino
Steel). Tracie Hunter will be playing
loads of Gigs round Pattaya too, (at least
2 at Jameson's) so this is going to be a week
when you will definitely want to be in Pattaya.
Mottman and six of his mates have already booked
their flights.
A great day on Wednesday. Up at 5.30
a.m. to meet up with fellow Bad Guy Simon Philbrook,
then off to pick up the so called Good Guys,
and onto Emerald Gold Course for our Annual
Golf Tournament with a Kick off Tee Time at
7.25 a.m. Now by Tradition The Landlord's
role in the competition is to distract the opposition with some
form of loud garb. This year, as you can see from the photo
he really feels he excelled himself. In fact I am pretty sure
it was the major contributing factor to the Bad Guys
glorious victory. Leaving the tournament nicely poised for next
year as the present score is. Two games each over the last four
years. The Bad Guys of course have not stopped
whining yet, something about our Maths not being right, another
popular excuse was that we had got them up too early, etc. The
list of excuses is pathetic, but what do you expect from Good
Guys. The result stands a 5-4 victory for the Bad
Guys. Sadly, due to incredibly hot weather after 5
holes The Jester for the Bad Guys had to change
out of his clown's outfit and play on in some more tropically
apt clothing. With all due respect my Mum, Scar, and
the Dream Team Big Woolly Thick Socks, plus Fours and Texan
Golf Boots are jus a tad warm for this climate, and
I think if I had gone one more hole in that garb, I would of
passed out. The Golf Game was followed by a superb lunch
at Bruno's courtesy of the great man Geoff
Evans, who was joined by the Good Guys, and
the Bad Guys, plus Ron, and Geordie Tommy
(Regards to Mottman). Then it was all back
to Jameson's for a riotous evening where we
were joined by all the Ponters, and Judi McNamara, and
the Hash House Harriers. Have a good week, Kim.
The wonderful wall outside the Temple (Wat Tai Hee). It's
so colourful and beautiful. It would probably be a landmark
in any other city in the world, but here they are taking such
care and attention to a wall that not many people will see.
But it's certainly very uplifting as you go by
Nova Gold Hotel is being put up at such a rapid rate it almost
deceives the eye. The work men swarm about the building from
sunrise to sunset. Rony Fineman of course cannot leave it alone,
and is always tinkering, new marble setting's here, new dimmer
switch's there. Never mind Mottman will approve
The Rugby Crowd
Happy Birthday
The Corness Family come in for the first of their visit's on
Sunday. Iain was on crowd control, while Som gets ten minutes

Thank him

The greatest thing about Pagey is that everything is always
funny
Yes folks the truth will out. Last Wednesday there was a serious
case of dancing. I know there is a lot of shots of these en
shuffling about, but I did not want anybody to miss a second
of the action
The Landlord's lovely wife Goy, makes her first visit to Jameson's
after her little spell in hospital,
and I think you will agree, she looks more lovely than ever.
Of course Nat and John wanted their pictures taken to, 'What
can you do', it's pictures like these that make the Landlord
step up his efforts to try and lose some weight, before going
to see his Mum and be mesmerised by Mott The Hoople. Ron Keeley
of the wonderful World of Wines has put a countdown to Mott
The Hoople hitting the stage at the Hammersmith Odeon. Still
a long way to go yet
Brian Abbott's tour of Kazakhstan. With Leader of the gang Hickey.
Wish Brian would put his shirt back on even if it does say B*llocks
Kim Fletcher and Jameson's thoughts
turn to the Jesters Care4Kids Charity Drive 2009
The Jesters Care4Kids Charity
Drive is coming up very quickly. Let me just remind you of the
dates for the main events on Sunday 13th September 2009 is the
Jesters Care4Kids Charity Fair at the Diana Driving Range and
Resort, which this year looks like it is going to be even bigger
and better this year than last (if that is possible). Kevin Mitch
once again stepping into the breach, and doing all the organization
in his usual brilliant military precision style. Now whilst talking
about the Fair can I also remind everybody that Jameson's amongst
other things, has a Used Book Stall at the Fair run by Judi McNamara.
The Used Book Stall is always great fun and also raises a nice
lot of money for the kids. It is simple logic. (A) You kindly
donate to us all your old used books, which can be dropped off
at Jameson's or TQ any time, the earlier the better so we can
get them sorted. (B) You come to the Fair, and then buy a lot
of good books at a cheap price, come early for the best selection.
(C) We give all the money we raise to Kevin who hands it on to
the Care4Kids Charity Drive. Easy.
The next event after the Fair is the Jesters Care4Kids Charity
Party Night at Jameson's on Saturday 19th September 2009 which
will feature Paul Jackson as our compeer, Music from Mike Gerrard,
Rick and Harpic Bryant, and to bring us all to a Rockin' close
Pop's Pattaya All Stars and assorted guests. On that night there
will also be the arrival of Eric and Robert from their marathon
Charity Bike Ride always an amazing feat of endurance, the climax
to the Raffle and the fantastic Jesters Care4Kids Charity Auction.
The Auction Site is up and running, with lots of good things up
there already, all you have to do is click on the link on the
left hand side of this page and you will be whisked into Ron Keeley
of World of Wine Auction Site, there is plenty to look at and
you might even fancy putting a bid in yourself. Plenty already
have.
There are plenty of ways of helping the Jesters Care4Kids Charity
Drive 2009, Obviously by coming to the Fair, and the Party Night,
making bids on the Auction Site, buying Raffle Tickets, buying
T-Shirts, taking a Bumper Sticker for your car, taking and reading
one of our brochures and showing them to other people (all available
at Jameson's or TQ). If you would like to know some more right
now please click on the link on the right hand side of the page
for the Jesters Care4Kids and you will go on a journey to see
all about us the website. It is regularly updated and is run by
our Chairman, Lewis (Woody) Underwood, and our Webmaster David
Smith, a very good Charity, run by some wonderful people, to help
those less fortunate than others.
