Welcome
2009
Hello everybody
welcome to the first diary of 2009, as you
can see there are an awful lot of photos from the Christmas
and New Year period, which is great for me, as I don't
have to write so much. You know how they say a picture says
a thousand words well I reckon we are way passed the million
mark already.
With all the amazing things going on outside Jameson's
it was amazing how many things were going on inside Jameson's.
Christmas was an absolute blast with Rick,
Harpic and Pop's Pattaya All Stars headlining the show,
with a little help from Blowfly and Malcolm Clare (The
Root of All Evil) and his friend Port. Christmas Day as ever belonged to everybody,
and thanks to all for making it such a very pleasant day to
all who came for the staff and myself. A quick mention here
to Moo, and Wanchai, my left and right arms,
Bob managing to keep up with the supply of
booze that was required and to Chef Vinai for
his magnificent feasts all over Christmas and New Year. Christmas Day as ever was dominated by the
Sam Peebles/Brian Abbott table which accounted
for about seventy of our wonderful guests. Sam
being one of the first in and definitely the last to leave.
Of course the real Sam Peebles and Carole were
there and really in charge. Delightfully for The Landlord
Mrs. Peebles became Carole during
the period of Christmas Lunch. Many other notable
characters were in the pub as well for Christmas
including Captain Jester Steve Ponter, George Again,
Mr. and Mrs. Graham MacDonald. The poor old Landlord
did not know which way was up by the end of the day. (But then
again when does he?) New Year’s Eve was a great night and
we shall carry on our policy of just having a Pub Night
for many years too come. The festivities were led by the George
and Geoff EvansTribe,
(see that photo of the staff all with a drink in their hand,
and standing round Geoff saying Happy
New Year? Well Boro Steve in Australia,
you paid for those! And The Root of All Evil Tribe.
After what
must of been the wedding of the second half of the year (Don't
want to tread on any MacDonald's toes here!).
Simon and Debbie Philbrook are now happily
married, and after good vacations over here all The
Lightley's and Philbrook's of this world are now back
home off their holidays, and back in Blighty
we hope it will not be long before we see them all again. 2009 will have a lot to live up too to be more
interesting than 2008 (we live in interesting
times). It starts off with a bang as this weekend is Jimmy
Howard's 65th Birthday, and how does he intend to celebrate
it, well I can tell you. It's going to start with a massive
booze up in Jameson's on Friday 9th January,
followed by the next day by a rugby game between Jimmy
Howard's 15, and 15 from the Pattaya Panthers. There
is more Jimmy intends to have playing on his
side Dez Hall (A Reasonable Call), Graham MacDonald
(A Ludicrous Decision) and then he wants me The
Fat Landlord (An Incredulous Design) to go out onto
the field and risk life and limb. It's not that I mind, but
imagine how the poor bloke is going to feel after he has decapitated
me with a mere glancing blow. That is as far as I will describe
the celebrations, because unless I can find somebody to help
me hide or get an emergency note from my mum, I personally will
not be doing any more celebrating for several weeks. But I am
sure everybody else will have a jolly good time. How does Jimmy
do it at 65 whatever it is I want a pint of
it. Happy Birthday Jimmy from all at Jameson's.
Lots and lots of good folk around as ever over the festivities,
a complete invasion force from both The Payne's Jason,
Nui, and Leo, and The Keeley's Ron, Weaw and James.
Which meant more World of Wines stocks were
depleted.
Bob's shirt is the winner on the Wednesday night snazzy
shirt competition, knocking Johny Live off the top spot

It is with great sadness
that I must tell you that Mike Franklin passed
on to the great golf course on Tuesday morning.
The Mr. Golf of Pattaya, the honorary Jester for the
Care4Kids Charity Drive, Mike has been involved with
the Care4Kids Charity Drive right from the
start, and his unswerving passion and enthusiasm was an inspiration
to us all. Mike's journalist skills certainly
came to the fore, and always at it's best when he was writing,
or broadcasting about the children in need. Mike
was a very proud man especially of his family to whom all of
our sympathy at this rough time goes out to. Through the last
few months Mike has shown great courage in
dealing with the terrible cancer that was eating away, a real
gentleman in every sense right to the end.
I personally shall always remember Mike for
his great kindness in introducing me to the world of golf when
I first started at Delaney's. Mike was President
of the Pattaya Sports Club Golf section at the time
and was a very busy man, but showed great generosity in showing
a complete novice the ropes, and never gave up on what seemed
like a hopeless cause. Running, Weekly, Fortnightly,
Monthly and Major Golf Tournaments at Delaney's, Shenanigans,
and then with us at Jameson's, where Mike
set up JIGS (Jameson's International Golf Society).
Wonderful memories of my lack of golf prowess and organization,
compared to Mike's unflappable organizational
skills, and people powers, matched with his over whelming patience,
and generosity. Always with a mischievous twinkle in his eye.
Apart from all the publicity that Mike so generously
worked on every year for the Care4Kids Charity Drive,
Mike also ran the Children's raffle
at all the Care4Kids Charity Fairs. On the
first Fair at The Royal Cliff Hotel the grand finale
was with Mike on stage where he was always
in his element drawing the prize numbers with all the children
down the front hanging onto his every syllable, studying their
ticket numbers. The number one prize was a gigantic Teddy
bear and when Mike pulled out the
top prize ticket the number was my eldest daughters
Tracy who was about 9 years old at
the time, Mike called her up on the stage,
and presented Tracy with this Teddy
bear that was twice her size. Daddy
was called for. When I clambered up to join Mike and
Tracy and of course Teddy on the stage,
there were tears of joy, love, and happiness rolling down Mike's
cheeks, a wonderful moment that I shall always cherish. My life
has been hugely enriched by having had the pleasure of knowing
Mike, and he will be sadly missed by all. Mike Franklin’s funeral will be on Thursday
15th January at 3.30 p.m. at Wat Chaimongkol, South Pattaya
Road
Of
course with the new year always brings new hope in the sports
world. What a lot you have to hope for if you are British
especially English. The constant worry of whether
Reading will get promotion, and if they do
let's hope its automatic, not those nerve racking play offs.
I know the Landlord's nerves won't stand that
let alone their Manager. Who after that will
have to front up and confront the Bad Guys
at golf with cohort Peter Bevis. Then there
is the worrying situation with the EnglishRugby team. Don't start up a conversation on
Cricket either. You would of thought they would
of got their act together with the Australians
coming over for the Ashes, I mean a decent
wicketkeeper would be a start. All will be revealed over the
coming months on all of the Jameson's screens
from the giant screen in the sports room to the many plasma
and smaller screens dotted around the pub.
My word there are a lot of photos this week aren't there? So
we shall offer a prize of a Jesters Care4Kids T-Shirt
for the person who can work out who is in the most photos this
week. It's got to be either Malcolm Clare The Root of
All Evil, or the world famous Mottman.
Very nice this week to meet Peter Makowski of Classic
Rock fame, who is the guy who so generously donates
all the signed Rock Memorabilia for our Care4Kids Auction
and thereby raises hundreds of thousands of baht for the kids.
Although Mark was talking to him for an hour
before he realized who he was. My Thanks to Woody
for setting that little meeting up.
Fond New Year's wishes of course go out to
everybody, but in particular Tony and Iris Ritchie
who supply the Berroca which keeps the
Landlord going, Lisa Lurve who fills
all our dreams, Dave Foden, and American Paul who
introduced himself the other day.
Please enjoy this diary, I hope you enjoy the extended edition,
normal service will now be resumed for the next 50 weeks due
to the diligence of our lovely Secretary Orchid,
with due diligence to good old MBMG. Rony's Relatives Guy and family are in town
for another week so I hope they have good time, they certainly
did in Jameson's. Regards and Best Wishes from Moo, Rony, and of course
Kim.
