Diary No. 232 Week of 17th August
2009 - 23rd August 2009 Updated 27th August 2009

Week
Well somebody
pushed the Happy Button this week, what a week that was. Friday
was a really particularly memorable day. Well it was if you
heard about it, if you were there you plain just cannot remember
it. As Superman Graham Watkins remarked. There
he was in Jameson's sitting quietly in the
corner watching the Cricket with Tony when
in walked a bunch including the Landlord, and
it all went distinctly Pear shaped in thirty seconds, and let
me tell you it did not get any better. All in the name of good
fun. Then to top it all a FantasticGrand Prix (which kept
Dr. Iain Happy) one of the most exciting games
of Rugby I have ever seen (and we all know
how much I hate seeing Australia lose, even
if it is by the smallest of margins). Some pretty good Football,
and then of course on Sunday night England
regained the Ashes in the Cricket. You just
can't keep a good man down can you Freddie Flintoff
in his last Test Match injured needing surgery,
can't get a wicket, can't get a run, and plus off the most amazing
run out I have ever witnessed, at the most important time imaginable,
to the most important Australian Batsman. Brilliant
stuff. Even BupaBob was impressed.
Let's hope for another weekend (and week) like the last one.
Of course we have plenty of Football, and hopefully
another fine game of Rugby on Saturday 29th August at
5.00 p.m. If the Rugby flags a little
we can always look out for Graham MacDonald and Simon
Edmonds in the crowd wearing their England
Cricket shirts! For more details of all the sports
events on the T.V at Jameson's please look
up our sports schedule on the sports link on this page.
Way too
many characters in the Pub this week to mention them all, but
a few, a very good spirited Aussie Damo, Graham MacDonald
fulfilling his role as the Font of All Knowledge, Gregarious
Greg, Neil Sandilands who has gone off to play Rugger
(or did I read that text message wrong?) The Mighty
Sam Peebles and Entourage, Cricket Rick, Cricket Tony, Derek
Hunter, Cricket Geoff, Woody and all the Jesters Care4Kids Committee
members, Simon Quigley, Paul Slack, Peter Mack and Friends in
Peters Arms (A Pub within a Pub in Jameson's),
Rony Fineman and family including Eli
who is doing a fine job of running the Nova Park Hotel,
BupaBob who by the time you read this has sadly flown
off, but may well be turning up at Hammersmith for the
Mott the Hoople Gigs. Captain Steve Ponter who has
rocked in and out of the Pub in all his many guises, but mainly
as the Landlord's Mate, Ray Matti, came and
ran his rule of terror for a few days before retreating to the
Lakes, Jack Levy (The Captain of the Dream Team), Simon
and Debbie Philbrook, Ray Campbell, who returned from
his golfing sojourn with Alan Shearer with
some wonderful totally unique items for our Jesters
Care4Kids Charity Drive Auction which are now up on
the website run by Ron Keeley. Please have
a look at our Auction site, it truly is the
best Auction site we have ever had and we are
all very proud of it. There is no need to have any intention
of bidding on anything to have a look, although it may well
wet your appetite. People are so generous in this time of great
insecurity to donate such wonderful things, again too many to
mention, but mention must go out to Mike Axford, Ferenc
Fricasay, Good old Peter Makowski (who really has excelled
himself this year). Ray Campbell as I said,
Peter Marland, even the out of work Manager
has done well for us this year, there are plenty more
worthy of mention, go and have a look at the Auction
site to see.
Really nice to hear from a skinny Tony and Iris Ritchie,
who hope to be here in October. Peter
Bevis is also looking forward to Mott The Hoople.
Naturally with winning I heard from David Foden and
Simon Edmonds, but not a peep from Ian Dickson.
The mixed Ashes bag watching the first day of the Final
Test Cricket Tony in Big Dave's Chair, Bupa Bob ( who later
in the week lived up to his name , and is as I write this nursing
a couple of Broken Ribs.) Landlord Kim, and Cricket Expert from

Hopefully
you all know the Jesters Care4Kids Fair is nearly
upon us at the Diana Driving Range and Resort starting
at 10.00 a.m on Sunday 13th September. It's a wonderful
day so if you’re in Pattaya on that day
make sure you don't miss it (or the Jesters Care4Kids
Party Night at Jameson's on Saturday 19th September 2009 with
the Conclusion of Eric and Roberts Bike Ride, Paul Jackson our
Compere, the Grand Conclusion of both the Raffle and the Auction).
But the nearer and nearer we get to the great event Jameson's
Used Book Stall is looking a little depleted this year
many of you have very kindly already donated books, but Judi
McNamara and I are still out there seeking more books
to sell, so if anybody has any books that they don't need, please
be so kind as to bring them into us at Jameson's
or if you would rather Tropical Bert's at the top of Soi
Six, Tahitian Queen on Beach Road, or The Pattaya Mail Office
all of these are in Pattaya. If you’re
in Bangkok you can always drop them off at with
Tim at Jameson's in Bangkok, or with Peter or Matt at
Jools on Sukhumvit on Soi 4. Do you remember that all
books that we sell the money goes to a very good and needy cause,
in times of recession it is actually the poor people who suffer
the most. Kim.
Here we are!
Small, but somewhat significant, problem. One Bookazine (hospital)
tells me the book will be available end of August, the other Bookazine
(Royal Garden) tells me September 10. Do we go for signing on September
10 (and take the risk)? Or go for September 17 (with a lot more
certainty). I want to take the punt on September 10 - because surely,
since the books are here already (in Asia Books) we could even send
a pile of them down by taxi?
What do you reckon?
The Doc!

turn to the Jesters Care4Kids Charity Drive 2009
The Jesters Care4Kids Charity
Drive is coming up very quickly. Let me just remind you of the
dates for the main events on Sunday 13th September 2009 is the
Jesters Care4Kids Charity Fair at the Diana Driving Range and
Resort, which this year looks like it is going to be even bigger
and better this year than last (if that is possible). Kevin Mitch
once again stepping into the breach, and doing all the organization
in his usual brilliant military precision style. Now whilst talking
about the Fair can I also remind everybody that Jameson's amongst
other things, has a Used Book Stall at the Fair run by Judi McNamara.
The Used Book Stall is always great fun and also raises a nice
lot of money for the kids. It is simple logic. (A) You kindly
donate to us all your old used books, which can be dropped off
at Jameson's or TQ any time, the earlier the better so we can
get them sorted. (B) You come to the Fair, and then buy a lot
of good books at a cheap price, come early for the best selection.
(C) We give all the money we raise to Kevin who hands it on to
the Care4Kids Charity Drive. Easy.
The next event after the Fair is the Jesters Care4Kids Charity
Party Night at Jameson's on Saturday 19th September 2009 which
will feature Paul Jackson as our compeer, Music from Mike Gerrard,
Rick and Harpic Bryant, and to bring us all to a Rockin' close
Pop's Pattaya All Stars and assorted guests. On that night there
will also be the arrival of Eric and Robert from their marathon
Charity Bike Ride always an amazing feat of endurance, the climax
to the Raffle and the fantastic Jesters Care4Kids Charity Auction.
The Auction Site is up and running, with lots of good things up
there already, all you have to do is click on the link on the
left hand side of this page and you will be whisked into Ron Keeley
of World of Wine Auction Site, there is plenty to look at and
you might even fancy putting a bid in yourself. Plenty already
have.
There are plenty of ways of helping the Jesters Care4Kids Charity
Drive 2009, Obviously by coming to the Fair, and the Party Night,
making bids on the Auction Site, buying Raffle Tickets, buying
T-Shirts, taking a Bumper Sticker for your car, taking and reading
one of our brochures and showing them to other people (all available
at Jameson's or TQ). If you would like to know some more right
now please click on the link on the right hand side of the page
for the Jesters Care4Kids and you will go on a journey to see
all about us the website. It is regularly updated and is run by
our Chairman, Lewis (Woody) Underwood, and our Webmaster David
Smith, a very good Charity, run by some wonderful people, to help
those less fortunate than others.
