Soft
Ball and Stella Artois
Another wonderful week of
Beer, Wine, Great Grub, (especially the Fajitas
that have seemed to have become the staple diet of the regulars
at Jameson's) and good times, at the bar and
the tables.
But first and foremost this week I must start with an abject
apology on last week’s diary I printed a picture of the
young good looking David Dobbs and captioned
it Paul Dobbs. I hope this will clear the air,
and stop all legal proceedings from David,
as he certainly is the Dobbs with the small
ears whilst Paul's are on the larger side (expect
another apology on next week's diary to Paul Dobbs
and then of course this could go on forever).
On the sporting front it is all go with a full schedule of Rugby
(The Six Nations and The Super 14’s) and Premiership Football
this week, please check our sports section for a full
schedule. There is also a full report on this page on the Softball
game last Sunday (but more of this later).
The Reading Football Club Supporters Society, Pattaya
Division's South and East, the delegate from North
having been banned, had a party last week as for the first time
in 8 games Steve's lot actually managed a win,
mind you at great personal risk to all of The Readings
Supporters club members, as they only went and beat
Middlesborough at Middlesborough. Brian
Abbott is considering abandoning the captaincy of the
Jameson's Football Team, and Darren from the Lazi Pig
wants words.
It's the people at the bar that are always the most fun, Darren
and Chris the Geordies, Sam Peebles the Geordie, Harry Watson
the Geordie, have you noticed a trend here? Good old
Linus in his local with towel in hand, always
helpful and willing "just tell me what time to be here,
and I will be, Debbie, Ian, Graham Woo, Young Steve,
and Young Paul up to know good as usual. The
Bryant Family all, Rick, Harpic, Jake, Paige and Abi. The World
of Wines were well represented this week with a great
Wednesday night which was Richard and
Maggie's last night till July, where
lucky Richard and Maggie had a driver to take
them home, great fun and high jinx around the table with the
Waller's was Captain Steve, Simon and Debbie
and the lovely Ingrid The Jester's Care4Kids Tooth Fairy.
This was of course after the second of this year's Jesters
Care4kids Charity Meetings attended at the Nova
Meeting Room by Chairman Woody, Linden, the
Toothfairy, Tony Malhotra, Mike Franklin, Captain Steve Ponter,
Debbie, the good Landlord, and my old mate Wild Bill,
this being our 11th year we are getting quiet used to this,
we are in March now and the panic button has
not been pressed yet. It will be, but just not yet. Do not forget
the Fair is on Sunday 14th September
at the Diana Driving Range and Resort, whilst the Pub
Night is at Jameson's on the following
Saturday 20th September. For more information
look up the Care4Kids site on the right hand
side of the page, or Jameson's own esters Care
for Kids site on the left hand side of the page, or
have a peek at the Auction site on the left
hand side. It was nice to see Jon Fox of Q cars
this week even if he had got the flu, but manfully tried to
drink his way through it. Johny Live is as
mad as his shirts as ever. Sid Silk is revealing
more talents the longer we know him, he is now taking care of
everybody's reading habits in the whole bar the Landlord
himself has come under Sid's spell and having
read all the Stephen Leathers books at least
twice is now reading the latest Jeffery Archer book
'False Impressions' and I must say that Sid
is spot on again, it is a great read. Great to have David
back even though, he will be flying about all over Thailand
on this vacation. Ray Matti and Curly
are still up on the lake, but we are hoping the temptation of
alcohol this weekend will tempt them down. The Root
of All Evil is away as well, but possibly the Rugby
might get him a weekend break from 'Oop North’. Nice to
hear from Bangkok, Woody and Simon Edmonds.
Bjorn bounces in most nights, along with the
Young Family, Maurice and Dr. Iain came in for a chat
Iain extremely excited as the Formula One season
starts in a weeks time. The Melbourne Grand Prix on
Sunday the 16th March.
The Mighty Sam Peebles on his triumphant return from the
Manila tens tournament, where although Sam and Paul Dobbs played
magnificently (Allegedly), Brian Abbott came away with the Golden
Boot
Anne has a cigar
Kim is so happy to have Harry back in the bar, that his hair
has grown back
Linus is kind enough to share his towel with Jake Bryant after
he had been caught in one of Pattaya's flash floods
Kim and the lovely French Anne
Harry Watson and Jameson's Captain/Coach
of our Football team Brain Abbott
Linus with Harry Watson about to steal
his towel
Ray gets ready to read 'Private
Dancer' the excellent book on life in Thailand, by Stephen Leather.
Ray said he would read it in one night and he did
The
Landlord now starts his day off in the morning with an
exchange of pleasantries with Murray (Muffy) Kerr
a nice way of starting the day off. After which The Landlord
and Rony have a cup of coffee and the day starts well,
it can of course always go downhill from there but it is always
nice to get off to a good start. The Softball report from last Sunday
by Rick Bryant is up in the sports section of this website,
but I feel inclined to add a word or two myself. The rules of
our so called Softball are magnificent including
elements of Softball / Cricket / Rounders / Baseball /
Hurling, the rules are also made up as we go along, as
long as everybody agrees (or not as the case maybe). Lots of Stella
Artois has to be drunk this is the only really hard and
fast rule. But it is very easy to get in to the swing of things
as Olav proved by turning up and not having a
clue what was going on and turned in to a bit of a star. Rich
("You Guys Really Do Not Know How To Cheat") Wibrow
turned up in a magnificent blue bandana, but then you have to
have a bit of a splash when you are turning up with the lovely
Nok. The Payne's turned up in
force with Jason, Nui, and Leo, Jason was humbled
when he was caught and bowled by a certain Kim Fletcher,
and then second time up to bat was held magnificently caught behind
by a diving Simon Philbrook. But Jason
later had his revenge as the Demon bowler and then caught the
Landlord out. Shelley proved
a life saver in the field by chasing down the ball, whilst husband
Eoin made the rather disastrous mistake of running
Shelley out. Ingrid played like the Jesters
Care4Kids Tooth Fairy's reputation would allow whilst
Richard had to go for a catch in the outfield
with one hand because in the other he was holding his Stella
and what do you do drop the ball or drop the beer, fear not the
beer was save. Linus also let his blanket go
to down a Stella. Debbie once
again proved she should be in New Zealand with
the England Cricket team as the keeper, although
Simon behind the stumps was sight to see. Simon's
reputation as a big hitter, is now in tatters although the catch
by Rick Bryant to dismiss him when he was first
up to bat was one of the wonders of the day, but there were many
great catchs during the course of the day, Youngs Sam's
sticks out in the memory, of course the Mark Coombes
catch will go down in Jameson's folk law, do
I drop the dog and catch the ball or look after the dog? Oh well
goodbye Rover and he still managed to catch it.
But at the pinnacle of catchs was Harpic Bryant's.
Rick came up to bat and creamed this ball into
the mid-field and set off at alight canter for a home run, every
body was looking around Horseshoe Point's fencing,
whilst Harpic was holding the ball aloft as she
had plucked it out the sky, I actually think the ball that Rick
hit is still somewhere up in the stratosphere, whilst Harpic
had produced another ball from her pocket, to claim the catch,
David and Eoin both made first base there on,
but on separate teams, Rich fielding at silly
mid on when he thought he was in with a chance of a catch was
a model of concentration and beer juggling. Ko from Horseshoe
Point could not resist joining in safety first Debbie
lived up to here name. Graham Watkins proved
that after a morning golf with a stationary ball to hit a game
of Jameson's ball in the afternoon is all a bit
much especially a tournament sponsored by Stella Artois,
and a runner had to be called. Great fun, and we shall be having
another game on the first Sunday of next month
Sunday 6th April kick off about 2.45
p.m. or meet at Jameson's before 2 and
join the convoy.
Well have a good week, and let’s hope that our website critic
John Hagan likes this week's diary! Come on John
