This Saturday 19th May there are Two Cup Finals at the same time The Super 14's Rugby Final, and The F.A. Football Cup. This of course is not a problem at Jameson's we will of course just split the screens putting the games on in different areas. So if you are a football fan who has got a slight curiosity about what is going on in the rugby finals or a rugby fan who is really a closet F.A Cup enthusiast Jameson's is the place to be. There will also be room for the cricket test match between the West Indies and England at Lords, if the game manages to stagger into a third day or more likely is not raining. So all sporting viewing needs can be sorted out at Jameson's. See the sport schedule for full details.
Plenty of good news this week. This week Samantha Faeste was born to Lars and Nok Faeste to hearty congratulations from all.

At Nova Table with Gregarious Greg from Mackenzie, Smith and Law, Spanner (the most adjustable person you will ever meet), Mike Mike, and Mike Watkins, the proudest Welsh Captain there will ever be

Olav wearing a very special shirt designed by Spaghetti head, Micky Angel and The Landlord Kim

As many of you know Big Dave has now sold Jools Sukhumvit Soi 4 Bangkok, just down the road from Nana Plaza, opposite the Ra-Jah Hotel, to Matt and Rung, Matt has been a long time friend of Jools even before he married the beautiful Jools manageress Rung. Now the two of them are working together at Jools. Matt of course is trying to drag Jools into.....Well at least the 20th Century if not the 21st. Lots of new developments at Jools including a website at www.joolsbar.com (there will be a permanent link between the two bars on every page of the Jameson's website on the side panel underneath the Nova Group link). The website is already up and running with a superb picture gallery of all the pictures round the wall, so if you have not been to Jools in a while you can look up the pictures and see if you are still there be patient though as this as you can imagine is an on going job (lot of pictures equals a lot of time). There are also pages for up coming events, menus etc. Well worth a look. Tony Ritchie should have a word with Matt to set up the old Buffoons Club again.

Aha beauty at Jameson's

Jameson's still storm's away literally when it rains, the after math of the Chris Kays Rugby Tens still buzzes round the bar, and for anybody that wants more information please look back to last weeks diary. Bruce Birchall was as usual the first to arrive and the last to leave, hopefully he will manage to sneak an extra holiday back to Thailand before next years tens. Henri from Raimond land has become a regular at Jameson's now which is very nice. Plenty of correspondence from Neil Smith this week which always brings a smile to the lips. Of course all wishes for a speedy recovery to Ritchie Perkins for a speedy recovery to his broken leg.
Panic has also been afoot around Nova Table as our Trustee Junior Assistant Trainee Deputy Manager Ian (Lady Di) Harrington prepares to move to Bangkok, at first the search was on for a replacement until we immediately realized the search was pointless, as Lady Di is irreplaceably.

Many folk have escaped the early light rainy season by popping back home for a few days including our boxing expert Sid Silk, Mike Watkins back in the valleys with the lovely Meow, Mike Mike (Mike Mike will you please contact Khun Tira as he has some news for you and I forgot to get your contact number before you left). John Hagan and Jerry were not happy about leaving, nor was Graham or Steve. Geordie Darren is still here, I think looking for his mate Geordie Chris every night. Peter and Bo have arrived, and in just a few days Bo has emptied all the shoe shops in Pattaya, so they have gone off for a holiday within a holiday, no there is posh for you. The good news is that we have actually got the company of both our Roving Ambassador Mark Stubbs and Rick Bryant all week without them being sent away across the world. Andy McTighe at last came back to renew his confrontation with Terry Schofield of North Shore Real Estate for the Jameson's T & A Golf Trophy currently held by Terry. The Landlord also wishes to thank Andy for his Classic Rock magazine. The same can be said to the returning Franks. Aussie Mick also arrived back. Lots of nice visits during the week Paul Baker came in on Sunday morning to join, the returning Neil Sandilands, Eoin and Shelley Quirke, and Graham Watkins for a drink on Sunday lunch, well one..two...three...four....five....six... Well let’s just say that Sandilands was at Nova Table for over thirteen hours, a good way to start Sunday.

This was followed by Iain Corness and his Racing Club watching the Formula One, after which they reconvened for Car Club on Monday. Iain always holds court every Formula One Grand Prix and every Car Club at Jameson's. Look up Iain's column in the Pattaya Mail for more details. We also had a good crew in for the Championship Football play off's last Saturday and Sunday led by Rick Bryant, The Pattaya Football team, Motorbike Shaun, Vince, and the man himself Sam Peebles. I fact this week we have seen quite a lot of families and friends all the Bryant's Rick, Harpic (with pickled onions and stilton, hard luck Root I tried to save you some), Jake, Paige and Abi (the correct spelling), Jason, Nui and the quickly growing Leo Payne, Stuart, Moo, Sophie and James.
Also seen gracing Nova Table was Simon Edmonds and Diane, mates of Lisa Lurve's Jenny and Dave. The Font of all Knowledge Graham MacDonald, Jimmy Howard, Mark Coombes, Simon Quigley, a very fit looking Maurice Brown. Simon and Debbie, Richard Holte, and traveling all the way from the big city Bangkok Paul (Bubbles) Davies which caused endless discussions around the table of which guitarist was better than whom. Michael Schenker got the Les Dawson award for guitar playing after his last concert in Bangkok. By special delivery we had the company of Big Dave Hoyle ex of Jools bar, who brought his massive chair with him from Jools. It took four very strong boys to lift it into the bar, and set it up, but once it was in Dave sat very snugly into it. This will hopefully make Dave come down to Jameson's more often, as we are now the only pub in Thailand with a chair big enough for him. The resemblance to Jabba the Hut from the Star Wars movies is quite remarkable though. Rich Wibrow was in for a much needed dinner after being run off his feet by Richard Holte at squash. The boys at the bar have been rather depleted in number after a few departures and holidays, but what they lack in numbers they certainly make up for in quality Rob and Wit, Denis and Lek, Chicken Nick, Ian, Welsh Graham, Jimmy, Joules, David Garred, the incomparable Moose, and hopefully by the time you get to read this the Root of all Evil Malcolm Clare and Johnnie Live will be sat at the table.
Always great to share and drink and a yarn with Steve Ponter around Nova Table, Steve's work this year goes well beyond any normal call of duty to which I take my hat off to him, since he joined the Jesters fair group he really has instilled a lot of enthusiasm and professionalism, whilst also adding a huge element of extra fun. As I said hats off to Steve. See you at the bar, Kim.

Peter sitting all on his own at Nova Table, you can actually see he has been left all on his own by all the glasses left behind

Of course there is one way never to be lonely at Nova Table buy a round for all the staff

John Hagan and sidekick Jerry tower above our Half Pint

Spanner readjusts the staff

Referee Bruce Birchal the man of never ending enthusiasm, and Landlord Kim Fletcher the man who is falling to bits

Half Pint gives the Landlord a beautiful cherry tree sadly this was Half Pint's last night with Jameson's although we all hope she will return soon in the role of a customer

David Garred in the Land of the Giants sitting (well perching in Jabba The Hut's chair)

The beautiful Sue

As you can see Nova Table is rightly reserved. Sitting at the Nova Table are Paul Jackson, Harpic Bryant (the maker of the best pickled onions in the World), Landlord Kim Fletcher and Rick Bryant. And do you know what this quartet of people is drinking. It's in black and white so it cannot be lie vinegar! Yes these people were so desperate for more of Harpic's wonderful pickled onions that they were prepared to drink the pickle juice to remind them of how lovely the onions were. Good job the Rot was not there otherwise he would of swigged the lot

Sitting at Nova Table in order of size Jason, about 60 kilos Landlord Kim about 95 and Big Dave about 200. Anybody else notice how much Jabba the Hut from the Star Wars movies looks like Big Dave. Or is it the other way round

Peter and Bo

Now you can see why Big Dave's chair has been moved into Nova Table

Simon Edmonds is actually eating in Jameson's something not in liquid form, entertaining Diane

Mike and Banjob Franklin. It is very rare these days to get a picture of Mike which is not all blurry as he is so busy, what with his work for the Jesters Charity Drive, interviews for Meet and Greet for Pattaya T.V and working on various other golf projects especially his work on the inaugural Mike Franklin Golf Classic details of which are on this page

Billy Sheal (Kidney Wiper) and family

Bo gets the staff a drink before she and Peter head off on their holiday from their holiday

Geoffrey and Tracy Fletcher entertain Goy for dinner on Saturday

Jimmy Howard wearing a Jimmy Howard 60th Birthday Rugby game tournament shirt (to the Font and myself the 65th game seems to be looming on the horizon very quickly). Shelley and Eoin Quirke settle down to watch some rugby last Saturday when we had the luxury of 3 rugby games in a row

The bar gang Stuart, Derek and Jimmy

Chef Geoffrey is ready at the weekend Carvery from 6.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. on Saturday and 1.00 p.m. till 11.00 p.m. on Sunday 350 baht as much as you can eat. Do not forget at Jameson's there are no hidden charges, and children eat for free if their parents are eating the Carvery

Paul Baker as usual sticks to a nice refreshing glass of water at Nova Table

Sam Peebles and crowd enjoy the football on telly whilst indulging in a couple of glasses of beer

Other people get a cake on their Birthday Rick Bryant of course has to be different and gets a jar with a candle in it

SATURDAY 2nd JUNE 2007
DHL Bangkok Lions RFC proudly present the Standard Chartered Rugby Dinner 2007 which will feature Jonah Lomu of New Zealand and Steve Thompson of England along with our good friends and broadcasters Willie Lose and Justin “Sambo” Sampson. Profiles of each are presented below:
• Jonah Lomu is a former New Zealand All Black who played for his country 73 times included 63 test matches. Born in Auckland of Tongan descent he grew up in south Auckland and attended Wesley College, Phukekohe. Lomu burst onto the international rugby scene at the 1995
Rugby World Cup held in South Africa and is currently the all time try scorer in Rugby World Cups with 15 tries scored during appearances in the 1995 and 1999 editions. He has represented several teams in the National Provincial Championships as well as the Auckland Blues, The Chiefs and The Hurricanes in the Super Rugby. He is currently making a comeback after undergoing a kidney transplant in 2004.
• Steve Thompson is a former Northampton Saints and England hooker who was a member of the sinning side in 2003. Having originally starting his career as a flanker, Thompson was persuaded by former Northampton, Scotland and British & Irish Lions coach Ian MeGeechan to switch to hooker. He was capped 47 times by England between 2002 and 2006 and twice by the Lions on their 2005 tour to New Zealand. Thompson suffered a serious neck injury whist playing for Northampton in January 2007 which forced him to miss the entire Six Nations. In April 2007 and at the age of 28 years old, based on medical advice he was forced to retire from all rugby.
• Willie Lose is a good friend of the rugby community in Bangkok visiting us frequently and assisting with the organization of the Bangkok International Tens in 2006 and 2007 and frequently arranging for rugby memorabilia for auction at junior rugby events. Born in West Auckland and having played for Auckland and North Harbour Rugby Clubs, he represented Tonga at the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa. Willie spent six years playing club rugby in Japan for Yahama Motor Company. He is currently developing a broadcasting career with a daily show for Radio Sport in New Zealand sand has also been doing television commentary for the IRB on the Rugby Sevens circuit at Hong Kong, Dubai and Wellington and in 2007 has been part of the Sky TV NZ commentary team for Super 14 Rugby
• Justin “Sambo” Sampson has been with ESPN Star Sports for over 7 years as a rugby presenter / commentator. In November 2006 he established Sampson Marketing Services, a sponsorship consultancy, event management and corporate hospitality company which allows him time to concentrate on being a prominent speaker, master of ceremonies and auctioneer at various functions throughout the region, Middle East and Australia. Prior to joining ESPN Star, Sampson worked with the Singapore Rugby Union for over five years as National Coach which followed a three year spell playing and coaching for Kubota Corporation in Tokyo, Japan.
The evening will feature a traditional Maori welcome for Jonah from the Bangkok Maori Group and will include a four course meal and free flow wine and beer – all for a measly THB 2,800. The function will be held at the Imperial Queens Park Hotel on Saturday 2nd June 2007 from 7pm and there will be a number of items of rugby memorabilia available for auction as well as other exciting items which will be included in a raffle.
In advance of the Dinner, the four individuals above along with members of the Bangkok Lions Committee will on Friday 1st June undertake a number of community development initiatives including visits to schools and charities. On the morning of Saturday 2nd June 2007 they will hold a coaching clinic at Bangkok Patana School.
We’ve had some splendid dinners over the past few years and this please do your best to support this event and spread the word! Rats – please inform all at the Panthers and Panties. Jamster – please inform all the CRAFT.
We look forward to your support and should you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Regards.
