The Jameson's Sporting Times
Sport
from now until the end of the year is monumental. This weekend on Saturday
4th August is a friendly rugby game between England
and Wales, as a warm up to the World
Cup which starts in September
Jameson's will of course be showing all 48
games live even though some of them including the semi
finals and the final, will not finish until 5.00
a.m. But how can any game of rugby be called "Friendly''.
Let battle commence say I Kim Fletcher.
Then on Sunday is a day
made for Jon Fox of the
wonderful Q Cars. First
we have the Hungarian Grand Prix,
which will as ever be hosted by Iain Corness
in the sports room followed by the beginning of the football season with
the Charity shield game
between Manchester United and Chelsea.
Speaking of football The Pattaya Reading
Football Club Division's North and South are preparing
well for the start of the new season, a few transfers have been made and
practice sessions eagerly attended, which is apparently more than can
be said for the actual team, but still Manchester
United away for the first game. Doddle.
The ever popular Ingrid (the world famous
Tooth Fairy, there now I have done it, I have blown her secret identity)
celebrates her birthday at Jameson's, with family and friends as you
can see a very jolly bunch they all are too
Ladies and Gentlemen, Lords and Ladies, may
I present the Jameson's rogues gallery for this week, on your left is
the man who used to be called Malcolm Clare, now known as the “Root
of All Evil”. He may well seem a charming chap when you first
meet him BUT beware all is not what it seems once the "Root"
(as he is affection known by those closest to him) builds up a head
of steam there is no stopping him, Bob the barman is often reduced to
a gibbering wreck once the shooters that the Root orders start flying.
In the middle is the man for all season's (Football, Motor Racing, etc.)
Jon Fox of the infamous Q Cars, now if you want a car for rental or
purchase Johny is your man, if you just want to have a quiet drink a
distance of at least 1 kilometer away from Jon is suggested. On your
right hand side is Ray Matti, everybody's favorite Cloggy, this man
should also not be trifled with, his latest habit is Champagne shooters
with Tequila, now one is a bit of a laugh but 6 within 15 minutes tends
to send the old grey matter a bit scrambled. The three of them together
in one town is bad enough to make a grown man cry, but all three together,
in one pub, well it puts the future of the world as we know it in desperate
doubt. But if you wish to see Carnage at its most fun all three of these
people will be in for the Formula One, and The Charity Shield on Sunday.
The fat Landlord Kim Fletcher will be hiding under the table
Our Resident Manager Wanchai
with the Jameson's secret pool championship team winners for sure
The other
side of Nova Table, the to working Franks, with an attentive Johny Live,
who's website is highlighted at the side of this page, Thailand's most
popular hairdresser is our Johny. The fat Landlord, and The Executive,
Assistant, Junior, Trainee, Deputy, Relief Manager Ian (Lady Di) Harrington.
I think Ian is actually on the e-mail arranging fore Niel and Alice
Poulsen to come over for this years Jesters Charity Fair which is on
Sunday 9th September at the Diana Driving Range and Resort, followed
by the Party Night at good old Jameson's on Saturday 15th September.
For a preview of all the Auction Items and the main Grand Raffle prizes
please look up our special link on the side of the diary. The two top
prizes for this year raffle the two motorbikes will be on display in
Jameson's from this Saturday onwards, thanks to some industrious work
from Mr. Energy himself Captain Steve Ponter
Jason
Payne (Father of famous lead guitarist Leo) does love his sport, but
sometimes it all just gets too much for Johny Live
Please check out
the sports schedule on this page for times etc, all English
cricket supporters will be glad to see no cricket this week.
Great 50th Birthday Party for Neil Sandilands
last Saturday, good rockin' from 'The
Bastards' and a good time was had by all.
Best news of the week was the arrival back in Pattaya
of Paul and Oanh Crouch,
they have certainly been through the wringer, but have bounced back to
their old selves (or should that be young selves?) remarkably quickly.
It is really nice to have them back with us again. With the good news
though is always bad as Spencer
has now left to go to the rivers of Jordon
and my mate Andy McTighe
will be going back to live in Blighty shortly. Not of course before The
Jameson's T & A Golf Tournament is sorted out. Will
the Trophy stay in Thailand
with Terry Schofield of No fixed abode,
or will Andy carry it aloft
to England?
Sid enjoys his first beer of the day with
John and Bo
Andy in the thick of it all
Johny, Paul and Alan after
doing battle with the Root. You just don't win you see
Bob closes his eyes and
prays whilst the old professional Andy is ready, willing and happy to
speedup
Oh the perks of Management
Lady Di have a quick chat to one of the lovely Heineken girls. Lady
Di assures us that he was actually enquiring about this lovely ladies
perfect teeth
Sid Silk a one man fan
club for uther Stephen Leather holds up the latest edition to his collection
a first edition unsigned paperback of perhaps Stephen's greatest work
"The Chinaman" Kim Fletcher and Andy McTighe look on bemused
Sid Silk makes a welcome
return to Nova Table, but makes the School boy error of sitting next
to Malcolm Clare "The Root of All Evil"
Brian has a good chuckle
to himself as Rick Bryant tries to squeeze himself into Big Dave's chair,
Harpic has been away camping in England for a week, a Rick has tried
to bulk himself up ready for his foray off to England to join her next
week. Harpic's request for the Landlord to give Rick a big sloopy kiss
was firmly denied
Look at this sad little
lonely chap, have you ever seen such a sad face Rick without Harpic
just isn't right is it. Still at least he has got Heineken to console
him
Two terrible pieces of news I must tell you before I close this short
diary. One of Pattaya's
brightest lights went out on Wednesday
1st August when Gerry
Carpenter went up to the great golf course in heaven.
Gerry was a man of many
parts, President of the Pattaya Sports
Club, supporting many charities, a leading man in the
development and running of Shenanigans,
but most importantly Gerry
was everybody's friend, you only had to know Gerry
a few minutes to know that he was a very sound bloke, and once he was
your friend, you would never be without a friend. I hope they had the
ice cold Kloster's ready for Gerry,
he will be sorely missed by all. Sadly also this week Noel
Sly, Ken's father also died after a fine innings of
88,
Noel will always be remembered for straining
his neck whilst trying to watch the rugby and the girls at the same
time in TQ2. Many a glass
this weekend will be raised upwards in memory of these two splendid
men. See you at the bar, Kim.
