After a storming Christmas, a fantastic New Year. As usual it was a mixture of organized and disorganized chaos. But as I have said a million times before it is the people in the pub that make it so great. And there we start with such an advantage. Ian Harrington (Lady Di) our Deputy, Junior, Trainee, Assistant Manager has done more than sterling job over the whole year and was a riot of activity over the New Year festivities. His right hand man and accomplice Mark Stubbs has sorted out more than a few computer problems. John Hagan has made us concentrate more on the diary, even though I thought last weeks was a definite '10' over the New Year frolic's one person who took it very seriously indeed was Neil Sandilands who took raspberries to a new level, if you get a faint aroma of raspberries in Pattaya you know that Neil cannot be far away. Other people seen over doing it just a tad were the sadly returning to England Dai Coe, the mighty Ray Matti and Curly Wurly these two really do not know when to stop, mind you can say that about most, Kimo, and Nid, Lorenzo, Jeremy Quinn, Robert and Simon who gleefully led Kevin Fisher's Boxing Day celebrations without him. Preparations for the 4 Hour Endurance race at the Bira circuit on January 7are in full swing. There are 30 teams entered, and I will be competing in one of the Pizza Company Vios race cars, with some help from AA Insurance Brokers Peter Smith and Malcolm Scorer, my personal sponsors. My Geriatric Car has four drivers, (Bill Heinecke - yes, THE Bill Heinecke, Paul Kenny - Aussie resident in Bangkok, Michael Freeman - Aussie resident in Pattaya and myself Dr. Iain - sort of Aussie resident in Jameson's) and our ages total 236! However, I am a great believer in Age, Experience and Animal Cunning as being able to overcome Youth and Enthusiasm. The lead Vios car will have Jan Magnusson, the Danish ex-Formula 1 driver on board, along with the winner of the Thailand Vios series Jack Lemvard (Thai-Danish), Thomas Raldorf (Danish) and Martin Stuvik (Norwegian). This vehicle is on track for outright honours, but in endurance racing, anything can happen.
Like the Geriatric Car could even win. In fact, I will be going to see Dusit Dave Garred at the Dusit Sports Club three times a week to get fit.
After one session I now know where every muscle in my body is, as they are all begging for mercy, bust dastardly Dave won't give it!
The race has attracted Natavude, the Thailand champion, teamed with "Pete" Tongjua, the TV soapie star, plus anyone else that can get his backside into a Vios. It will be a great 'picnic' race meeting, so come along and enjoy four hours of endurance racing.

Hi Kim, Merry Christmas to you and all your friends, patrons and fellow swally merchants. I see you are going from strength to strength and your website is the business! Couldn’t help but see a certain gentleman called Mark Stubbs on the site this week. He and I are old friends from Sizewell B construction back in about 1993 where we lived, worked and drank a lot together in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. The altime classic memory was “Stubbsy” doing a wheely down Aldeburgh High Street on his GSXR750, in all about a half a mile on one wheel at 70mph, classic. Give him my best regards. Since when did he become a computer expert?
